With which company are you doing / where did you do your apprenticeship?
I am currently working at Salus Bakery in Wangaratta, Victoria.
When did you decide you wanted to become involved in the baking industry?
I decided that I wanted to work in the baking industry after leaving school. Ever since I have become involved with the baking industry, I have loved every bit of it.
What motivates you to be a baker?
My motivation comes from my love of the craft, as well as a heavy motivation from my peers and my employers. My main motivation is from my employers however, because they inspire me to be greater every day.
What would you like to get out of the LA Judge Award/why did you decide to compete?
I would love to get a further understanding of the baking industry, as well as a wider understanding of the trade professions and skills that take place in order to grow my skillset. I decided to compete after competing in the state WorldSkills competition, as I really enjoyed that competition and wanted to further my skills more.
What’s your favourite kind of baked product to create?
My favourite baked product has got to be either a classic loaf of bread, or the staple of easter time, a Hot Cross Bun. Both have wide avenues to go down, creating room for inspiration.
What is the best thing about being a baker?
Personally, I believe the best thing about being a baker is being able to create and inspire others to create bread and pastry products to the best of our abilities.
If you could create anything in the world with baked products what would it be?
I would love to create a cheap and affordable bread product, that not only is eye catching, but also has an amazingly soft and light crumb texture.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
I see myself travelling the world, learning and growing my knowledge and inspiring others to do the same.
