AEGIC is integrating with Grains Australia to better support Australia’s grains customers and the Australian grains industry.

The AEGIC website will remain accessible in the short term; however, it will not be updated from 1 January 2026. As a result, some information on this site may be out of date.

We’re working towards a single, combined website in the near future.

A major Grains Australia project to examine and collate China’s barley quality requirements for malting and brewing is underway.

The project involves in-depth engagement with Chinese malting and brewing companies to document the barley quality and functionality attributes they value the most.

The insights will assist Grains Australia and the wider barley industry when making decisions around barley breeding, production and classification to help ensure Australian barley continues to meet the needs of the Chinese market.

AEGIC Lead Markets Manager Mary Raynes visited China during November 2025 to engage with major malting and brewing companies and confirm their participation via choice analysis surveys developed by AEGIC.

Mary visited companies across South, West, East and North China and was received warmly. The Chinese industry is highly supportive of the project and there is strong commitment to taking part in the surveys, and for further engagement and technical exchange from the Australian industry.

The visit reinforces the strong, trusted relationships underpinning the Chinese-Australian barley value chain. China is a major market for Australian barley, worth $1.2 billion in 2024.

The project is currently being delivered by AEGIC and will continue under Grains Australia when the two organisations integrate in 2026. As part of this project, we are also working with the Vietnamese market.

Grains Australia is an initiative of the Grains Research and Development Corporation.
