It was a pleasure to host Grains Australia’s Oat Varietal Classification Technical Committee (OTC) at our Welshpool site in July 2025.
Made up of key oat technical experts, the OTC is an independent committee of Grains Australia. The role of the OTC is to consider applications for classification, and to assess oat milling quality to ensure oat varieties meet the needs of domestic and international customers.
The OTC delegation was organised by Dr Sabori Mitra, AEGIC Senior Research Scientist, who is represented on the OTC.
After a warm welcome from AEGIC Acting General Manager – Technical Market Solutions Jack King to our Welshpool site, guests had the opportunity to sample a selection of AEGIC oat products, followed by a series of project updates and demonstrations.
Dr Mitra shared highlights of AEGIC’s oat market solutions work over the years, including an overview of our current project Novel market solutions in oat processing and new product development, under the WA Government’s Processed Oat Partnership (POP).
Dr Nabeen Dulal, AEGIC Research Scientist, gave an update on AEGIC’s oat classification project, which is also supported by POP.
AEGIC Oat Food Scientist Dr Harpreet Kaur and AEGIC Oat Technician Sumi Sapkota delivered practical demonstrations of key oat quality assessment methods relevant to this committee—sparking valuable discussion among attendees.
The delegates provided positive feedback, particularly noting the quality and relevance of the research, demonstrations, and oat product offerings.
