Wheat quality market intelligence: South East Asia

Between 2015–2019, with investment from GRDC, AEGIC developed and delivered a landmark intelligence package detailing South East Asian wheat quality preferences.

AEGIC’s market experts conducted rigorous choice analysis with flour millers and other processors across South East Asia on a range of end-product and flour quality attributes.

The resulting insights gave the Australian industry crucial guidance on how to tailor Australia’s wheat offering to customer preferences.

With investment from Grains Australia, AEGIC is expanding, reviewing and verifying this intelligence to ensure the Australian industry has access to the latest insights.

Completed (April-June 2025)

  • We travelled to five South East Asian markets, meeting 29 milling companies and over 120 participants in the project, to run surveys and hold conversations regarding the wheat quality preferences that are preferred for five key end products in each market.
  • We delivered three milestone reports on methodology, survey modules, and preliminary results from the surveys.

Completed (July-September 2025)

  • We continued to communicate survey results via discussion with stakeholders.

 Scheduled (October-December 2025)

  • We are returning to five South East Asian markets (Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia) during October and November 2025 for further meetings and surveys.
