Novel market solutions in oat processing and new product development
AEGIC continues to develop novel oat-based food concepts to capture increased food-grade opportunities for oats. Engagement with customers in key Asian markets on the benefits, functionality, and versatility of Australian oats aims to increase the demand for oats and oat products in these markets.
The objective of this project is to create value for all Australian oat growers and will have the most impact in WA, where much of Australian oat production is concentrated.
Completed (April-June 2025)
- We delivered a series of AEGIC oat educational webinars on: “Australian oats: health and quality for Asia” in June 2025 to audiences in China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, with collaboration from the Australian oat industry including Essantis, GLNC, Shannen Davis (Nuffield Scholar / InterGrain), and key AEGIC experts.
- We engaged an external consultant to conduct GAP analysis of a new product concept, identifying key gaps and value-add opportunities for Australian oats.
Completed (July-September 2025)
- The annual report (2024-2025) was submitted to the investor of this project: Processed Oats Partnership (POP), providing updates on the educational webinars delivered, stakeholder engagement activities, a GAP analysis workshop report for a new oat product concept conducted by an external consultant, and progress on the development of a new oat-based product concept.
Scheduled (October- December 2025)
- We are engaging with relevant stakeholders to identify valuable insights into market trends, drivers and opportunities for current and future oat products.
- We are continuing to conduct trials for development of new oat product/ingredient concepts using Australian oats for new market solutions.
