This project seeks to demonstrate the consistency, repeatability, relativity and robustness of the MultiMalter malting performance data, as well as continue a range of testing for MultiMalter data in barley breeding programs and initial developments of data sets for sustainable malt barley.

These objectives are best achieved by fabricating multiple apparatuses for different operators in several regions using the same samples and protocols to establish the consistency of the data derived from each machine.

This ultimately supports the validation of the MultiMalter and the usefulness of its data to industry including commercial operators. By establishing this, the project supports Australia’s malting barley industry as a major participant in global trade, subsequently delivering more malting segregations to growers at harvest time.

This project is a direct continuation of our MultiMalter pilot project, which was supported by GRDC.

Scheduled (July-September 2025)

  • Test new barley samples for optimal malting performance including new barley varieties and accredited varieties from different seasons.
  • Plan and develop further work to realise the MultiMalter’s commercial and technical potential in adding value to the Australian malting barley supply chain.
