Milling optimisation

This project incorporates and continues the progress of two previous projects:

International flour mills struggle to extract maximum value from wheat due to the challenges of milling wheat from different origins with vastly varying characteristics.

This project aims to strengthen the value of Australian wheat through market support and education for domestic and international flour millers.

The project builds on AEGIC’s significant existing body of technical information on the optimum mill settings to extract the maximum value of Australian wheat. These insights will be refined and updated based on current-season wheat through trials at AEGIC’s Pilot Mill.

The project will also continue to deliver AEGIC’s advanced wheat valuing techniques to help customers calculate the true value of Australian wheat across the whole milling process.

This education will both showcase the benefits of Australian wheat, while also helping customers achieve full value in the milling process.

Scheduled (July-September 2025)

  • Continued development of data and insights on optimum mill settings for Australian wheat.
  • Report on the optimal mill settings for current season wheat.
  • Report on the optimal blending settings for current season wheat.
  • An in-person workshop to demonstrate AEGIC’s wheat valuing techniques for domestic members of the Australian grains industry in August 2025, and again before December 2025
  • An in-person workshop to demonstrate AEGIC’s wheat valuing techniques for international millers in September 2025.
