High-value Australian hard noodle wheat for East Asia

Phase 2 of this project will commence July 2025, thanks to further investment from SAGIT and GRDC.

Asian markets recognise Australian Prime Hard (APH) and Australian Noodle Wheat (ANW) as superior for noodle making. AH is less recognised for noodles, however, through market engagement in China, AEGIC found that a parcel of AH varieties was highly rated for premium noodles.

In response, AEGIC is engaging with other high-value Asian markets including South Korea and Japan to explore the unique opportunity to position Australia as a highly valued AH noodle wheat supplier.

This project has the potential to create new value for hard wheat growers across the country.

Completed (April-June 2025)

  • The wheat for a pilot container trial has arrived at a major Taiwanese mill, and a commercial trial run is planned.

Scheduled (July-September 2025)

  • We have scheduled a visit to a major Taiwanese mill to conduct a pilot container trial run by the end of July 2025.
  • We will communicate with Japanese and South Korean mills regarding the next steps.
