High-value Australian hard noodle wheat for East Asia

Phase 2 of this project will commence July 2025, thanks to further investment from SAGIT and GRDC.

Asian markets recognise Australian Prime Hard (APH) and Australian Noodle Wheat (ANW) as superior for noodle making. AH is less recognised for noodles, however, through market engagement in China, AEGIC found that a parcel of AH varieties was highly rated for premium noodles.

In response, AEGIC is engaging with other high-value Asian markets including South Korea and Japan to explore the unique opportunity to position Australia as a highly valued AH noodle wheat supplier.

This project initially focused on South Australia; however, it has the potential to create new value for hard wheat growers across the country.

Completed (March 2025)

• Noodle market reports were submitted to SAGIT in January 2025.
• We submitted a progress report to SAGIT in March 2025.

Scheduled (by June 2025)

• We are planning for a potential collaborative trial with a major flour mill in Taiwan in June 2025.
• We are working towards a final report due in August 2025.
• Phase 1 of this project ends in June 2025. Phase 2 will commence July 2025, thanks to further investment from SAGIT and GRDC.
