China malting barley technical seminars (new project)

Since 2023, the Chinese market has purchased more than 50% of the total Australian barley exports. This project will deliver two Australian malting barley seminars in China, one in Beijing and the other in Guangzhou. The seminars will include presenters from Australia and China and will present updates to the Chinese industry on varieties, seasonal conditions, and market expectations, and are expected to attract attendees from companies that comprise the majority of the Chinese malting industry.

The project continues the series of annual barley technical seminars held in the Chinese market since 2016 and is supported by the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations (NFACR).

Completed (April-June 2025)

  • Organisation and planning for the seminars in Guangzhou and Beijing, including confirming collaboration from the Australian and Chinese barley industries (breeding companies, growers, Australian Government representatives and Chinese brewers and maltsters).

Scheduled (July-September 2025)

  • 8 July 2025: delivery of a fully-booked seminar in Guangzhou, attended by more than 100 representatives of the Chinese and Australian malting and brewing industries.
  • 10 July 2025: delivery of a fully-booked seminar in Beijing, attended by more than 100 representatives of the Chinese and Australian malting and brewing industries.
