Reengaging with China’s barley industry

With support from the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations (NFACR), this project will support the enhanced use of Australian barley by the Chinese malting and brewing industries through renewing relationships, exchange of information, and visits of Chinese personnel to Australia to increase understanding of Australian barley technology and services.

Completed (April-June 2025)

  • Planning continues to host an inbound delegation of Chinese barley, malting and brewing industry representatives in July 2025.

Completed (July-September 2025)

  • In July 2025, we hosted an inbound delegation of Chinese barley, malting and brewing industry representatives to Australia. Visits included breeding companies, industry good associations, grain receival sites, and ports and logistics centres across Western Australia and Victoria. The delegation also attended AGIC Australia.
  • Also in July 2025, we hosted a dinner for the China Barley Reference Group for Australia (CBRGA).
  • In July 2025, we hosted a series of roundtable meetings with industry organisations and associations.

Scheduled (October-December 2025)

  • We will continue to develop a network of Chinese barley groups and contacts.
  • We will deliver a communications strategy to the Australian industry presenting on opportunities for future linkages between the Australian and Chinese barley industries.
  • The final report will be completed and submitted ahead of schedule.
