- 2016 LA Judge Award to be presented to Australia’s best young baker on May 19
- Six competitors from around the country to vie for national baking recognition
- Don’t miss out: tickets for gala award evening still available
Six young bakers on the rise from around the country are about to prove they have what it takes to compete for the prestigious LA Judge Award.
The LA Judge Award is hosted by the Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre (AEGIC) at its Sydney baking laboratory. The 2016 prize will be presented to the best young baking apprentice in Australasia following three days of rigorous competition between 17-19 May.
Award organiser and AEGIC General Manager – Research and Technical Services Dr Ken Quail said the LA Judge Award was the most esteemed annual baking prize in Australasia.
“The competitors will be put through their paces in all aspects of baking, including practical baking exercises, technical knowledge, food safety and communication skills,” he said.
“The competitors will also have a chance to really show off their creative baking skills as they each construct their own special ‘bread plaques’.”
The theme for this year’s bread plaques will be “The Olympics” to celebrate the Rio 2016 Olympic Games later this year. The plaques will be on display during the Gala Dinner and Award Presentation, along with other products baked during the competition.
The Gala Dinner and Award Presentation will be held at Dockside Sydney on Thursday May 19, presented in conjunction with CW Pacific. Tickets will be on sale until Friday May 13 (or until sold out). The guest speaker will be baking industry stalwart Dean Tilden.
